Moroso CAI: Discontinued for 1994-97 LT1s?
#21
If someone tells you that the difference between 15hp on a street car is unnoticeable, laugh at them and turn away.
My stock air box was holding back 20whp when I was on the dyno. Last couple pulls,Pulled out the stock air box. 20+rwhp!
Stock air box is most definitely a point of massive restriction.

All cold air intake similar to the Moroso design are very much all the same. In fact, it was one of the first bolt on mods I did when I bought my 1994 Z28 new 21 years ago. It was originally designed by Callaway, it was called "The honker". They sold the design to Moroso.
If you're looking for a cold air intake, I would look into a "ram air" design such as the Chrs1313 ram air, or alike. It does not have all that 90* bends, which slows down the air velocity to the throttle body/intake opening. Theres a thread here somewhere showing the results.

Don't think I'll be doing ram air until later on, but thanks for that information.
I learned that a few days ago about the Callaway. Hey, if they designed it and used it on their cars, I think it will be alright for me. I wouldn't say Callaway is at all ignorant when it comes to high performance.

So it looks like someone still has a few brand new Lingenfelter CAIs....

EDIT: Ignore this post, Fasttoys doesn't have them anymore. Forgot to update their site.

Hmm, possibly.

I have a K&N intake, but I ditched the K&N oiled filter and replaced it with a similarly sized AEM DryFlow cone filter. No complaints. I just vacuum the filter a couple times a year. No oily mess. And they filter almost as well as OEM paper.
The design of the K&N may or may not be the "best" but it is definitely better than stock, by a long shot... and with the right filter, you're not giving up any filtering capabilities in exchange for air flow.

Yes, but it's a 1995 camaro...plus I'm function over looks. I have zero interest in showing the car. They only attention it gets to look good is washed and vacuumed LOL. Then it gets beat on at autocross.

Yeah, you're right about that! No doubt about the functionality of the lid, but that setup isn't for me at the moment. I'll just deal with a CAI for now, and maybe do the lid in the future!

I started with the $40 eBay special that everyone was ragging on in that other thread, the advertised "cool sucking sound" and all. It flopped around a bit but did the job. Any CAI with a K&N filter is an improvement over stock since the stock has so much restriction, and like Voyager said, you can't tell the difference between 11, 13 and 15hp. I parted out a 94 a year later and stole the K&N intake and sold the eBay special, and felt zero difference, but it was plastic so no heat soak and it was held on better.
Later I got curious about the ls1 lid and pieced it together. $20 for a used lid, $7 for a Home Depot Fernco 4" coupler, and $40 for a new K&Nflat ls1 filter. A little trimming with a cutoff wheel, laid the radiator back an inch and the hood closes. Then found a chrs1313 ram air used. Never really got an apples to apples back to back run comparison, but I like that the lid has no bends like the CAI, and I sold the K&N for $100.
