Default Buying a used Moser 12 bolt....

I posted in the gears and axles section but thought you guys would be quicker to respond.

What things should I look for as far as quality/usage?

I think Im getting a hell of a deal at $600 but it has 70k miles on it though. Are there certain things I need to expect to see/find? First rearend purchase so I am kinda lost on whats important or not......

Thanks a lot!

check the axle bearings. see if there is any play in the axles. check the pinion shaft. see if there is any play with that. open the cover and check the wear pattern and to see if there's anything funky going on. 70K is nothing, unless all of that was spent hammering on it. did it come out of a manual or auto car?

They tend to loosen up. but for $600 you better jump on it before someone else does. That is cheap .

I wouldn't even ask questions at that price. Even if it was thrashed you'd still be saving money with a full rebuild.

I think its in fine condition. Its not blown up or anything, just been sitting for 3 years because of a busted trans. And if everyone is saying $600 is a steal, I think I can deal with the 4 bolts and using the industrial loctite......

I have the four bolts and have only had to tighten them up once in two years. I will probably loctite them next spring.

What are the differences in a Moser 12 bolt and a Strange 12 bolt?

Same here, I've had mine over four years and still tight as can be. I'd jump on that deal!!

Truly the only difference is Strange's torque arm mount is the same as factory mount with the two long bolts.

I do believe stranges axle tubes are smaller than the Moser. If memory serves me the Strange has 2.5" axle tubes and the Moser has 3" axle tubes.
