Default arp main bolts

Just to clarify since i think i know the answer. Arp main studs/bolts kit, need line hone before assembling motor right?

Ditto on SS RRR's comment.

I did try ARP bolts on my mains to see if I could use them without any machine work, but the clearances changed waaaay too much(too loose).

You also want to follow ARP's torque specs. Not stock.

It's not about them being loose or tight, bearings will dictate the clearance. Changing the fastener can distort the main and make it ovate so a line bore may be needed to make things circular again.

Not sure if that was from what I last said, but that is not what I was getting at. The torque specs on ARP hardware is usually different than stock, therefore it is best to find out what torque those fasteners need rather than going by a GM manual.

Arp uses different torque specs for hardware. I understand its a no no for arp studs on mains without line hone haha

My comment was in reference to ACE's post. I know the torque spec depends on the fastener.

What I was saying is that changing the fasteners can distort the metal and make bores out of round. The only way to know if a line bore is absolutely necessary with ARP studs is to measure, but I wouldn't count on it.
