Car went boom
So I got my car back yesterday had a new opti put in it car ran grate took it out and did some wot runs and on the last one it made a big boom like a shot gun followed by a lot more shot gun sounding back fires until I stopped and it died had it pulled home and i can start it but it pops and back fires for 2-3 seconds then dies so I'm wondering did my opti go out again I did get a cordone I know if you don't get a gm one it's a gamble but I don't want to spend that kind of money on a opti when I plan on going 24x next year

The future was written on the box..Car-Done. Delphi is my first choice, like many others have suggested pull the cap and Loctite the rotor screws. As long as coolant and oil stay out of it, the Delphi unit will give a long service life.

while VERY likely your cardone is...well done, pull it and remove cap to confirm rotor is still on
you can keep rolling the dice on those POS and keep getting warranty replacements...or go buy a Delphi and keep driving

Backfiring is a good indication you have a timing issue. With that being said and you just installing an opti, my guess is that your rotor is loose and spinning freely firing cylinders at will. As suggested, take it back off, take the cap off and see what condition the rotor is in.

So I got it out and disassemble it the screws for the rotor came out any body know a good place to buy a delphi unit it takes to long to swap one of these things out I'm going to do it right and not waste hours replacing optis and this cardone is going back to autojunk

Delphi are hard to find. ebay has them sometimes. Not cheap
since you did discover the rotor screws came out, just use loc-tite to put them back in as you know the Opti is otherwise still good.
Yeah its life expectancy is marginal. Maybe yours will last. Otherwise you are going to have to pony up the $375+ for a rebuilt AC Delco

Look for a MSD unit, I had one trucking on with even a cracked cap. I actually sold it for $150, as I think MSD will refurb them for $100? That was a while back, not sure if they still do that or not...
EDIT: I know you already figured out what the issue is, but what you described is exactly how my car was acting when the original opti went out. So glad I haven't seen an opti in 5 years!
