In an F-body, absolutely correct. In our big heavy B-cars, I'll take the 3.73 for all-around.
Both my kids have F-bodies with 3.73's and A4's. 3rd Gen with Vortec swap and a 4th Gen with 3.8 V6.
The V6 absolutely needs the 3.73's.
The 3rd Gen would be a better all-arounder with 3.42's. But.....she drag races it as much as cruises, so in her case it's great.

Perfect for everything else IMO butif you plan on using the car a lot and spending time on the highway etc I'd personally keep what you have or to go to a 3.42 at the most.
Okay what would u say about 3.73s on a m6 then if it's gonna be driven on the frwy?

For an M6 I'd do 4.10's. My buddy has 3.73's in his M6 and they are great but IMO 4.10's are the way to go. If you can try and meet up with someone locally who has gears so you can get a feel before you decide.

FWIW:
My auto with 3.73's is crusing at ~2365rpm at 70mph.
Your M6 with 4.10's would be at ~1883rpm crusing at 70mph.

I'd kill for that

As I stated, I have 4:10 and IMO they're the best rear end gear ratio out there for a Street/Strip M6 Car. My car drives beautifully in 6th with Cruise set at 75mph in fact my RPM's at 75 are just a tad bit under 2300 maybe more around 2100 if my memory serves me correctly. (Could be wrong, Its been a year since she went on a road trip) Ill post up a screen shot for you guys on WED.

I'd even argue that 4.10's are best for an M6 for a car that never sees the strip.
4.56's for a street/strip car if you care at all about putting down some respectable 60's and ET's.

i will say that in my 02' 3.90's are great for everything! Great gear for the street and performance oriented! I run a 235/240 .629 .615 on 111 LSA cam in my LS6 and it never feels sluggish. Also something to consider is tires. My 275 section Nitto NT555's don't hook till 3rd. So I have to be careful with throttle. Highly recommended 3.90's if you're stuck between 3.73 and 4.10. Just my opinion

I agree to an extent. But for me 1st gear is already short with the 4:10's I built my car to handle the road course though. Shes never been to the drag strip. Although I would love to ride in a TA with 4:56's

I'm really thinking about the 410 gears but someone said that they will snap the stock rear end. And do u think I will be okay on a 200 mile trip with them?

If I was going with 4:10's I would upgrade the rear end. I haven't had time to read the entire thread but I am sure it has been stated that the rear end is a weak link. I saved up every penny I had so I could get it set up right and I dont regret it one bit. The rear end I have can take a thrashing. If money is an Issue I would wait. I personally don't see the point in changing the gearing in the rear end if you have plans to upgrade it later. Sometimes its better just to wait a little bit longer and save for the mods you want done just so its done right. I understand money can be tight. Thats where searching and picking up a part here and there really comes in handy. I waited a long time until I found an awesome deal on my CC503 Cam Brand New...it sucked the entire time. But it saved me almost 100$ in the long run. What I can tell you, from the reaction on peoples face when I get on it in 1st and climb up through the gears. It was worth it.

I vote get your car out on the highway and play with it a bit. Cruise along in 6th gear at various rpm levels and see what you can live with. Ignore the mph you're going since that will change depending on gear. Take some mental notes and compare the rpms you're willing to live with to the rpm you'll be turning on the highway with different gear sets at say 70mph using an online gear calc. Select what you then feel most comfortable with.

I mentioned earlier I have the equivalent to 3.90's in my Z06 and I just drove it 225 miles round trip to Corvettes at Carlisle last weekend and it was purring like a kitten. I could live with that all day long. Infact I still wish I had shorter gears.
