New Tune, LT4 KM needed????
Just got a Solomon tune through the mail. He recomm a lt4 knock module. Do I really need one if i have mac mids that dont bang against the floor board like long tubes can? Also i have the gm/lt4 1.6 roller rockers and i read they aren't real noisy. Cam lift is only .533. Just wondering if the expensive knock module is really needed?

the LT4 KM was used because of the GMPP (Crane) 1:6 RR. Also the LT4 came with composite valve covers to further mask the noise of the RR.
Supposedly a tuner can adjust knock sensitivity to nullify the need for the KM....but if your tuner is advising getting one than perhaps they can't do what the LT4 KM does.
They get stupid $ for them now. I saw one on ebay sell for over $300

I would run what you have now with the LT1 module and see if you are pulling timing from false knock. If not, motor on without it. Some say you don't need them because (as ****** stated) the tuner can work it out. Others have a different opinion. Anecdotal evidence shows a lot of people getting the LT4 module and it getting rid of their false knock, but ymmv

10 years ago on my first lt1 i had to put in a lt4 module after i installed a cut out. I guess it was so loud it thought the engine was knocking. i was actually just talking to solomon a couple weeks ago. Im installing mac mids and will be getting a tune. he said he can adjust knock sensitivity but still said the lt4 kn helps. Im with you, i dont want to pay hundreds for one.

"just put a LT4 KM in it" is not so easy. If you find them they are $$$.
I've been dealing with false knock for a while now. I've determined it must be false knock and I'm just not going to mess with it. It's only higher RPM under WOT conditions. Otherwise the car runs fine. Not worth my time and money to have my local tuner look into/fix it since I plan to build a new motor to drop in. At which point a 24x conversion will happen.
Pretty sure you can have a tuner turn up the recovery rate of knock and to limit the max timing to pull. I have seen 10*....I could limit it to 2 and have it recover back to 0 much faster.

Wow a few on ebay are selling for $400. I have two but one is in the obd1 ecu and the other is in the obd2 ecu. Going to keep both. I know mine helped up top with my header install. Sucks as I bought mine for $45 years ago. The second happened to come in an ecu I bought.
