96 LT1 swap into 94 Z28 questions
So my long term '96 Z28 project car was wrecked by the previous owner years ago pretty badly. Here lately I've just been browsing local for sale ads and stumbled upon a deal of a '94 Z28 that I think I paid less for than I would have just for body work on the '96. And the bonus is that I can daily drive the '94 with how it sits now.
I plan on swapping the built '96 LT1 at some point and I know I want to run the vented opti setup but I'm not completely sure if I want to stay with the OBDII setup or use the OBDI already in the '94. I know a lot of guys prefer OBDI because of tuning capabilities but the plus to staying OBDII is that I already have my PCM tuned by Solomon for all the work I've done to the engine. So with the OBDI setup, I would have to get tuned again.
But whichever way I go, what else is involved with running the 96 setup in the 94 chassis? I've read the knock sensors are different and I know the ignition coil plugs are different. Would I be better off just swapping the whole 96 wiring harness?
Any advice would be great.

Well......if you are able to run the whole '96 wire harness, you will have to (and be able to) run the '96 tune you got from Solomon which I know is what you'd want.
But I'm thinking you'll have transmission issues trying to run the '94 4L60E off that '96 harness......
Does the ''94 have a manual? Do you still have the '96 trans??? If no to both, I'd used as much of the '94 parts (like the ignition coil and opti) as possible and run it as an OBD-1 with the existing harness.
The knock sensors issue shouldn't pose much of an issue in any case; there's a 'work-around that you should be able to find on this forum and the Impala SS forum.

The 94 trans will work fine with the 96 harness and pcm. Now if it was a 96 trans with the 94 harness, then it wouldn't because you'd have to run an extra wire for the tcc solenoid in the 96 trans that the 94 harness doesn't have. However, the 94 body harness only has one plug on the passenger side fender well, whereas the 96 engine harness will have two. The car will not run like that, as the extra plug in the 96 harness controls ignition function like power to pcm and fuel pump power. If it were me, I'd use the 94 harness.

Both cars are automatics and both run and drive. But if just getting a new OBDI tune saves me the hassle of wiring harness issues by trying to stay with the OBDII setup then I'd op for that route instead

I just dropped a 97 engine in my 94 car, and thankfully ran across this post as I've been searching all over to find why there's no ignition power to my PCM.

Ok I'll go ahead and make the repairs necessary on my 94 harness to use it instead.
I had compared two pinouts for the c100 and c105 plugs, and thought, hey I can just move that one pink 12v switch wire to the c100 and it should work. Nope, no luck lol.
I'll swap out the harnesses and hopefully mine will fire. Sorry for hijacking your thread man, and thanks for the reply!
