Default Bought another camaro today! 97 anniversary car

Bought it form a good friend. 36k miles with a 6speed. My current 95 has 122k miles and an auto. I really missed not having a 6 speed and i think i got a good deal on this car. It needs a new hood, someone stole it from his driveway. they found it and it has a small dent in the hood, other than that the car is still mint condition. And i think i can sell my current car almost for the price of the 97. Ill be swapping over the borla and wheels.

Cool find. Also good that the friend knows a bit of history. Those are my favorite strips on these cars.

Since i need a new hood, should i get an ss hood or cowl? Its just this car being low mileage and in great condition, im not sure if i should get a stock hood or not.

I really like my SS hood, but I also like the smooth lines of the standard hood and that it would allow you to go back with the OEM stripes. Its kind of a special car and I would keep that hood stock.

Ya im leaning more towards the stock hood to keep the original looks. If it wasn't an anniversary car id probably go ss.

If it's all original, I would repair the hood that's on the car if it's absolutely necessary and can be done.

Car was at one of the better body shops in the area. They said it is not repairable. The hood supports are bent or something.

Do you have pics of the damage and have you gotten a 2nd or 3rd opinion?

Only pic right now is the pic on the post. If you zoom in you can see the dent in the middle of the hood, a few inches up from the bumper. The hood is higher up them the fenders on the sides. It dosent look that bad but they said it was.

It's not like its ever going to be a barrett jackson car. You might as well get an SS hood and put stripes on it that match the rest.

i do love the ss hood. I know the car will never be worth much, im not planning on that. im going to do full bolto ons, cam, wheels so it will not be staying completely original.

Nice find. Keep the original wheels and hood in any case, original hoods and wheels are easily swapped back on.

If it's the factory hood you should do everything in your power to save it. Finding another 30th factory hood may be next to impossible, and matching the paint may be an even more futile attempt. Unless it's creased I don't see how it can be trashed?

so i was just talking to the guy i got the car from. He was told the support brackets on the underside if the hood have stress cracks. So if they fix it it probably wont be as strong if it got into another crash.

I wouldn't put too much faith in that. Take it to a reputable body shop and see what they have to say.

i will take it to another place. I would rather not have to deal with swapping hoods if I don't have to. The shop it was at is a very good body shop.

Nice find. There are a couple 97 Anniversaries near me, but they all want like $25,000 for the car. Eff that.
