Default Oil pressure ?

Just purchased a 97 WS6 that has aftermarket digital gauges. At idle cold start holds 40psi. After warming up holds 20-25 then randomly goes to 0-7-17 etc. motor has 116k runs great no noise. Holds 40psi at 1500rpms while driving. Should I mark this off as a fault electronic sending unit or bad gauge?

You could confirm the pressure via a mechanical gauge.

Picking up new gauge and sending unit. If pressure is still low car will be getting dropped off to mechanic and turned from a 350 to a 402. Phone call has already been made lol ... thinking it's the sending unit since one day it was reading all over the place on a cold start then now reads 35-40 to suddenly dropping big time at a stop when hot, but not always

If you do want to confirm the pressure with a mechanical gauge, which is never a bad idea imo, there should be a port right above the oil filter. I believe that applies to all LT1s. On 93s and early 94s, that's where the sending unit was located. It was subsequently relocated to the drivers side rear of the block behind the intake manifold

Get a mechanical gauge. That way you know for sure.

does oil pressure dip down during braking or just normal driving?
