Always use jackstands, folks, no matter how quick the job is. This was from a floorjack I've had for more than 10 years. It worked fine raising the car to put on stands, but once that happened it started coming down before releasing the pressure. If you are ***** deep under the car not paying attention and this happened you would have most likely been trapped. Just FYI...

Amen on the jack thing....admit-tingly I am guilty of "taking a quick look" while floor jack is holding car when I was younger & dumber....my floor jack is at least 50 years old, Craftsman

Have always worked on all my cars and when kids were young and always wanted to help Dad I said never get under a car held up by a jack only. They both, now grown, still say when I work on car "Dad use the jack stands and chalk the tire".

I always put large wood blocks under a car when doing any work under it.

I don't skydive without a parachute. That's kind of silly.

I would go even further and say to always use jackstands even when you aren't under the car. It would suck to be changing brakes and have the jack start releasing on you with the wheel off.

This is why working on trucks is better and safer. No need to raise em, and no need for jackstands.

Exactly. A rotor can do quick work to a shin.

Seriously guys, chock and jack stands EVERY TIME.

Wifes Corolla fell off the scissor jack when the behind the wheel wasn't enough. Wheel was off doing the brakes and I was sitting on the floor next to it with my left leg under the car. Had just moved so didn't have jack stands, thought the chock would be fine for a quick brake job. Rotor karate-chopped the cement a split second after I jumped out the way. Scary stuff!
