Im guessing these heads can't be saved? Not really sure where to go from here. Looks like I'll be looking for a new motor on craigslist.

As long as they can press a new seat in I think you will be fine. It has been years since I had this kind of work done so not sure if the cost would outweigh replacing the head.

Edit: looked a little harder and now leaning more towards nope

Is that a hardened pushrod that snapped in half?

One of these tools works great for holding the flywheel.

I put some longer bolts into the holes that hold the balancer on the hub and held them with a breaker bar, worked fine for me

I'm in California. Looks like I messed up this motor and heads with incorrect timing. After all this trouble im either looking to have a short block done by either golen, ellwein, or im debating about this cheaper block from a member on here. Here is a forged 355 http://brandoncordoba.com/ta/ part of me thinks I should spend a lil extra and have one build for myself with a warranty. Gonna drop these heads off at my machine shop today and see what they have to say. I could just LS swap it now for the amount of $ im about to dump into it.....hmmm LT1 never did give me too much trouble tho

Re: Maabco. Bought one from them for my last wagon. Put a cam in it and some stock aluminum heads and ran the snot out of it for about a year before I sold the car. Never had a hiccup. Good oil pressure, good compression, never a problem. The current owner reports the same and its been 5 years now

IDK anything about them...you may be getting what you pay for. I would contact them and get a "specific" build itemized list. Piston brand, etc. Is the motor .030 over or just larger rings with stock size pistons (f no). The crank is likely a stock polished or re-grind.

Ellewin is regarded as about the best LT1 builder out there. IIRC he charges $1500 for a motor build + parts.

I bought a Golen 383 4 bolt forged short block for Golen 11 years ago. runs strong still so no complaints

Karl or Golen are certainly going to be more than MAABCO

FWIW I also bought a $1000 motor for my Ford 302 from a online builder and it "eventually" worked fine although I did have to immediately send it back for a rod knock. They did warranty it. The shipping cost though was on me.

Took the heads to the local machine shop and he says they cant fix them and they probably shouldnt be fixed. Also he said the valves were all making contact with the pistons.

So there goes the whole lt1 motor. Not sure what to do now
