Question How much power can the stock rear end on a 95 Z28 A4 handle?

In theory how much power can the rear end take before needing to upgrade to a 12 bolt? I'm talking mainly street driving and no use of slicks.

Your stock 10 bolt should be fine if you don't plan on using street slicks.

well the ten bolt can handle as much power as you can make. its the launching that they cant take. so if your not planning on dragging it much dont worry about the rear. your tires most likely wont hook good enough of the street to damage anything. if they do then sorry man time to upgrade.

i always go at it like this. if your not building a purpose built drag car or one thats going to the track every weekend getting the crap beat out of it, then dont worry about things like that til they cause problems. just be forewarned about their weakness.

just let the tires slip a little bit at the start you will be fine.besides unless you run a big converter or you have a 6 speed car if you try to dead hook your car is gunna fall on its face anyways...Let the tires spin a lil off the start and run like a bitch out the back door!

Id agree no launching on drag radials or slicks and you'll be fine.

The auto will die before the 10 bolt, all my friends that went 10s on their 10 bolts were on ET streets or ET drags.

with an auto, you can launch on whatever tires you want and you should definately be safe running low 11's. Several people have ran 10's with it but thats about the limit on the rear ends and thats if the shop did a good job installing them.

i made it to 10.40's and every 3 passes i would have to put gears in it r a center section. now i have a 12 bolt and run 10teens with 1.38's and the 10 bolt went a best of 1.41 short time.

I agree. as long as it hooks good they will live. it is when you are not hooking good and they chatter that they get torn up. Lost three teeth one night like that.

Ran mine deep into the 11s on one at 3,750Lbs
