Default 1996 Vortec compatible with LT1?

I have a 1996 silverado with a vortec style motor. I've read that this means that they are the infamous "vortec" heads that GM is famous for. So does this mean that i can take an LT1 head and put it on my truck? any help would be nice.

Nope, Vortec in those are still Gen I SBC based, so a Gen II SBC LT1 head will not work. How ever Scoggin Dickey has a conversion manifold to run Tuned Port Injection on those heads. But LT1 heads will not work on that block as it is a Gen I SBC.

The Vortec heads use iron LT1 head ports(equal to the best of the aluminums and better than most) so you almost have LT1 heads already, your are just setup to work with the gen1 cooling.
Where in Wisconsin are you? I am in New London.
