Default LT4 rocker arm help on AFR heads!!!

I am building an LT4 to put in my gals Z-28 and have had a real bitch of a time getting the rocker tips to line up with the valve stem tips. I had to move the guide plate on several, and in a few cases flip them as well.

My question is, is there an easier way to tell if they are going to line up properly before installing the lock nuts? Is there some kind of tool for this, or can I improvise one?

I may also have to file the mounting holes on a couple of the guide plates to get them to line up ok. Is this acceptable?

Depending on what set of AFR's you have you need to use AFR guideplates. They sit crooked, that is the design of the heads, but it needs to sit on the tip of the valve correctly, some minor missalignment is ok just VERY minimal. Sometimes you need to cut the guideplates in half and locate them, than weld them back together to get it PERFECT.

Wait, your subject line says LT4 rockers,
as in stock GM LT4 1.6 extruded aluminum crane copies?
those rockers are NSA, (non self-aligning) you cant use guideplates on them

I think you got it backwords.... with NSA rockers you MUST use guide plates... On the other hand SA rockers DO NOT need guide plates.... (hence the names, self aligning and non self aligning)

They are Comp Cams 1.6 LT4 rockers. I've included a pic to show how far out of alignment some of them are.

That looks bad, I'd get the Isky adjustables if I were you.
