Default LT1 rod knock?

well i took a guys advice from work and tried a thicker oil to see if it would do anything, no such luck still knocking. but my question is will a rod knock if its just slight will it be inconsistant? like sometimes at idle it will go away completely, or when i rev it up it will will be intermitent. im just curious it it could be something else that wasnt as serious.

If it has rod knock it is not good to continue running it. You are just doing more damage to the parts that are still good. If you want to sell the block im interested.

im not driving it, just tried the thicker oil to see if it made any difference. whole reason i got the formula was cuz of the 93 knocking.

Sometimes you can get lucky. I had a rod knock in my Fiero. It was there at cold startup, and under moderate acceleration. Most of the time it wasn't there, but I could certainly hear it.

I simply dropped the pan and replaced the rod bearings with stock size units (since the motor was as-built stock). They all looked pretty rough, but none had spun, and both the crank and the rod journals looked fine. Car hasn't knocked since, and I've put about 2k miles on it.

total cost: $13 for rod bearings, an oil change, and about 5 hours of time.

you would have to pull the motor to replace the bearings. and at that piont you could take the crank to a machine shop to be reground. new bearings oil pump and your ready to do another 100,000 miles.

if the motor gets pulled ill just put in another short block, no sense in tearing it apart if it isnt going to get built up heh.
