Ran my 383 for the first time tonight
First the excuses. I have a full wieght 1994 vert. I had a full tank, spare tire and jack and my very heavy back pack. I decided screw it, I'll leave everything in and just use tonight to see if the car withstand the abuse.
I have a 383 with H/C and bolt ons, detailed mod list below and cut out open. I used BFG D/R 315 35 17 with 15 psi. I ran a 12.7 @ 110mph with a 1.9 60. I actually ran a 12.6 my first run up with a 1.7 60 @ 109 but that was fluke and never duplicated.
My A/F was between 10.0-11.2 most of the runs. My o2 milivolts ranged from 940-880. I used C16 racing fuel but it was added to a nearly full tank. I still had knock when in P/T driving around but only one time did I see any knock at WOT and it was 3.2 degrees. I should also mention that I didnt let the car cool down alot. That may account for the couple of 13 second passes I had also at the same mph lol.
I need to get this thing on the dyno and get some logs so I can see it's true potential. I didnt expect anything fabulous tonight. I'm only dissapointed with the MPH. I was kinda hoping it would be in the 117mph range. I may go back tommorow, but it's doubtfull. Untill I get a re tuned Ill never see the true performance even with less wieght. So what do you think?

Don't worry too much. This happens to everyone. After I put my 92 Vette (AKA the Electric Grape) back together with heads and hotcam, I ran WORST than stock (14.4@95 ) Eventually got her down to high 12s running on the stock 2.59s and street tires. After we swapped out the gears to 3.73s it was trapping at 114.2 with a mail order tune and shorty headers.

Don't forget our verts are HEAVY. My H/C vert with a 2400 stall could barely eek out a 13.20. With full gas and big wheels out back, I think you were easily pushing 3900 lbs. You simply can't expect to run "as fast" as a hardtop when you're at full weight. My 98Z weighs 600 lbs less than my vert.

Id be pretty pissed off if i were you. Get some tuning software so you can mess around with it yourself and adjust it to where it is just right instead of depending on what someone else thought you needed. I definately hope you can get some better times out of it man. What are the cam specs?

wow, my stock headed 383 went 114mph with a mail order tune weighing in at 3500. With those heads i would expect nothing less then 115 with a cow on the roof....or hood in your case. I would check your gas pedal/carpet clearence, or something that would prevent you from full throttle. My car is rich as hell right now...(blinding fumes and BLACK cloud at full throttle) and i'm running a better trap then you....and you pulled a 1.7 60'...which would help your trap speed at the other end? I would say check your trans fluid as well...it sounds like something simple with the extent of your mods and people that did it.

The cam is 23x/23x 10x <---Did I do that right lol. I'm hoping with a tune and some wieght reduction I can find another 5-7 MPH. Doubtfull but who knows. I'm not to pissed because like I said, I went in knowing I was running rich and knowing I still had alot of crap in the car. Not to mention I'm 6'6 260. I'm the one that needs to lose wieght not the car lol.

Also, I forgot to mention that the highest i could brake stall my car with my yank 3500 was 1100 before the car would start moving. I think I need a new torque converter.

Yes pcmforless. Ive pulled out a total of 4.5 degrees across the board today. It seemed like it helped alot. then out of the blue every now and then it will detect knock. It almost feels like the Knock sensor is trying to **** me off. Ill get into it and see no knock then ill go into p/t and see some, no more than 5.0 I feel like I'm close though. Tommorow I'll remove another degree across the board and see how it reacts and go from there. What is DA?
