Uhh, not sure what you're talking about, since it's a 97 which = LT1. And BTW- you can get them at O'reilly's for about $85-90.

If my memory serves me, there is a K&N available that is not intended for that car but fits pretty good. You just have to take the measurements and I contacted SLP on this once and of course they told me that I must purchase the original filter only due to the special size. Don't take my word for it though and do your research. I placed a custom cold air kit on my and did away with the factory plastic crap.

As far as I know K&N does not make a direct replacement for the 97 SS SLP airbox. Reason is the K&N filter element is much thinner than the stock paper filter so the airbox "lid" does not clamp down on the element and seal the gasket to the lower airbox. I did find a powershot filter from Holley but it really sucked so I went back to the stock paper AC/Delco element. Paper filters better anyway so I'm willing to trade off a little flow.

yeah auto stores charge *** loads of cash for that filter. 70-80 bucks is about right. fortunatly my car had one in it from the previous owner. I just got that k&n recharge kit and ill have to use that to get it back to new again

Yeah, K&N doesn't make one for the SS's. However part # 33-2018 fits pretty damn well. I like it.

i tried the k&n for the lt1 ss and it sucked. it would never seal right and there was always crap in the air intake that got by the filter. after countless tries to get it to seal i threw it away. i have been running a napa paper filter ever since.

My 96 SS has either a K&N or a Holley Powershot filter. I'm not sure which one at the moment. It looks like it fits fine. There was a ton of dirt in it when I bought the car so I know it works!

If it is tall enough to just about touch the airbox lid, then it is probably a Holley.
