Default You lose that much torque from a cutout?

I have a cutout on my 96 lt1 m6(CAI & Catback), and when driving w/ it closed, then opening the cutout from a stop I friggen stalled it!

There is a definite torque lose down low, not major major but enough to where you would stall it if you were not aware when letting out the clutch at low low speeds.

Interesting.

You may feel a loss of power, but Ellis corect me if Im wrong, I think it's been debated to death that the low end torque is just moved up in the powerband. it may feel slow but in reality it isnt

You don't "loose" anything. The tuned length of the exhaust is effectively shortened (caused by the lessened backpressure) which causes the exhaust to be tuned for a higher RPM band, thus raising it up.

Your ride is fine, and it's faster.

Before I put my cutout I talked to all my ls1 buddies from back in the day and it is all about placement. The closer to the headers you put it the more low end you will lose and more hp you will gain. The further back it goes the more torque you will keep but the power level will go down. I put mine just before the rearend and didn't notice any low end loss. With a CAI,GUTTED CAT,TB BYPASS{stock muffler} I ran a 13.99 at 100 with a 2.21 60ft. After the cutout I ran a 13.73 at 103 with a 2.20 60ft.

If I can get some time onlys next time out I might try and get comparision runs back to back I know what the Dyno tell's (More TQ and HP) but I will try to get real world data

BTW Hooker LTs into 3in Y-pipe mating to a 4in and a 4in Dynomax Bullet then the Cut out and a SLP Duel duel

I might be on the mustang dyno on sat. Being I"m a cheap bastard who will only pay $50 for a fancy chart, I'll do one run open, and one run closed. See what I come up with

If you don't gain from the cutout that means your exhuast is flowing very well. If you gain alot then your is exhaust is a major restriction. I gained 25 rwhp 18 rwtq with a cutout over stock catback. That was with a cam putting down 346 rwhp 338 rwtq cutout open. A bolt on car putting out 300 rwhp won't gain as much because the extra flow isn't needed. As for losing low end torque it was gone when the cam went in anyway. At the track you launch at a higher rpm and don't have to worry about that.
