If you stick with a GM opti, you need to upgrade to the 95+ year model that is vented. However, that won't guaruntee a problem free opti. If you would like to spend a little extra time and money you could upgrade to the billet MSD opti or the Delteq coil on cylinder ignition.

I was able to buy a delteq setup, all new parts, for almost the same price as the msd opti. that would allow you to rid yourself of the cap and rotor.

FYI I just installed an MSD cap and rotor on my stock opti. Definitely a good upgrade as it fixes the 2 main problems of the opti. It has a brass screw that holds the rotor together instead of the stock cheesy plastic rivets. Also, it adds a 5th bolt. The stock one only has 4 bolts and that allows the case to warp and let moisture in.

do a search on the Following.

LTCC
Delteq
and MSD

You will find alot of info and some bickering on what is best (I am replacing MSD with Delteq and MSD) but over all alot of good information!

Good luck!

isnt there a way to modify the block and run a regular distributor?

yeah you could run a different intake manifold or cut a hole in the existing manifold but i dont think you will be able to fit a distributor under the cowl on an f-body there is a reason why the distributor isn't back there

Were doing the LTCC on a friends 97 formula right now. Were having problems with the grounds smoking out. With a direct port kit and this thing, it's almost to much clutter. Hoping he changes his mind and sells the LTCC for the MSD.

Theres a GM engineer that ran the corvette action center for many many years, and he point blank said, before the MSD OPTI came out, to go DELTEQ as it was the only way to cure the issues with the OPTI design, then cursed the Opti and walked away. He basically was person who had to diagnose problems for GM the whole time he worked there in production vehicles, after the fact. Gordon Killebrew was his name.
