Zip-tie airbox mod
I read a lot more about this mod on the 'Vette forums than here; is this not as easily a doable mod on the F-body engines than on the 'Vette ones because of the airbox configuration(s)? I'm interested in doing it on mine ('94 LT1 Z28 M6) since it seems like the ultimate bang for the buck mod.

Holding the filter in place with zip ties, and having no cover. Dont know how you'd do it on the LT1 cuz the filter is an open element to begin with, so long as you have an aftermarket unit... and if you DO have an LS1 lid on your LT1, then I'd probably just keep that anyhow, since with the lid off, there's no way to direct (much less FILTER) the air that's going into your engine... just my $.02

I took out the very useful Dremel, and cut the face off of the Filter Box. I cut it to where the filter is still clipped inplace, but the front plastic is completely gone. Basically the same as what you want to do with yours, expose the whole filter to incoming air, but mine looks factory from the top.

I actually set something up that is better than any CAI I have seen. I call mine Cold Air Induction, and it gained 12rwhp by just doing it(dynoed it before, switched the intake there and did it again). And that was on the Dyno, the air on the roads might be a little cooler, so maybe 1 or 2 more on the street.
