the oil pan gasket can be a PITA.. i did my oil pump a while back, with no air tools on the ground with a cherry picker... and it was a pain, but can be done. if its not leaking dramatically then i wouldnt worry about it.. i would recommend getting the tool to install the rear main seal..i have seen people try to tap them in and not get them right and pour oil everywhere... its never fun pulling the tranny back out...

damn im not sure of the name of it.. i can check for you but basically you insert the seal in the tool the tool has 2 screws that you hand crank down into the bolt holes for the flywheel, once tight you crank down the big handle which pushes in the seal evenly all the way around.. i will look for one and post it up for ya...

The current issue of GM High tech Performance magazine has some pictures of a small block build-up. One of the pictures shows the tool, and how it fits in place. The text with that photo emphasizes the need to properly install the seal.

Check Autozone. They will loan one to you (if they have it) for free. (Just have to put a security deposit on it.)
