Default crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring?

I am currently in the process of installing my LE2 heads, cam, and intake package. I was wondering what the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring exactly does and if i would want to reinstall it. To my understanding it is on 96 and 97 lt1s and it is positioned over the crankshaft snout. The car is a 97 WS6 trans am. Any help would be appeciated.

What it does is help the PCM monitor vibrations......the PCM uses the sensor to see unusual acceleration or deceleration of the crank and sets misfire codes based on the readings.
