Default 355 storker kit

OK i have heard mixed things about this whole 355 build. I have heard it is just boring the cylinders over and then I heard there is a stroker kit like the 383 one to do this with. Someone enlighten me on this. I am going to go with a 355 build with LE2 package and some other goodies.

Also where can you buy the kit if there is one.

355 is stock stroke, overbore of .030.

I won't even get in to offset grinding etc.

Best bet is to talk to and work with a local machine shop. Most of the time they can match or beat places like Summit for pricing - and you don't have to worry about "you are bringing me what kind of crap to put together?" attitudes. You buy from their list, they work happily. You bring them stuff, and if there's problems, it's all on YOU.

Holic hit it right on the head.

As hard as it is try not to bring your parts to shops, they get pissed.

I have seen pricing and part comparison at shops compared to parts I want at summit/jegs and the summit pricing and quality is better. If they can get the SAME parts for the SAME price, then hell yeah I will get the pieces from them. But they are not going to be doing the assembly anyways just the machining. I am doing ALL final assembly. I have the experience and tools just don't have the stuff to machine anything LOL.

Anyways I just need to go .030" over stock bore then and match the pistons accordingly then right? Also I am looking into an 11:1 CR is that to much?

Honestly, by coming on here and asking if a 355 is a stroker kit, it doesn't sound like you have the experience... at all. Not being mean, just sayin'...

no I have never done anything as far as stroking a motor, but I have compeltely disassembled and reassembled motors after the machine shops were done with them. My 89 formula snapped a rod and scratched up the wall of the #6 cylinder so I pulled it stripped it and took it in to have it cleaned up. They went .010" over because of the gouge the rod made. we bought new eagle rods and keith black pistons and the rings and stuff and I reinstalled everything myself. the heads stayed stock and all but I do have other experience as far as motors do. But all in all I guess this should be no different than what I did with my 89.

I just wanted to clear it up since I have never stroked a motor before and the 355 really isn';t stroking the motor it is just an overbore.

Yeah I know a guy that put his together and the pistons were upside down, the valve reliefs were on the wrong side. Needless to say, his piston to valve clearence was negative.

HOW THE HELL do you put pistons in upside down? You have the slot for the wrist pins and if you put them in upside down you will have the top of the connecting rod hitting the top of the piston.

I ahve plenty of knowledge of the internals of an engine but I wanted to know for my self because I knew that it could not be a stroker kit since you do not have to mod the crankshaft any but there were people sayting otherwise.

I knew what he meant but maybe it would help if we explained it as turned 180degrees? If you were truely capable of this project you would have figured that out by the description if the piston to valve clearance issues.

Yeah I guess 180* out would have been a better term, but turned out to be a good exam nonetheless.

It was still clear enough that anyone who knows enough to undertake this project would figure it out.

Hey guys, what stroke and bore combo will get me 383 cubic inches?????

Reason I ask is because I'm doing a buildup of one that i'm looking to spray a 700 shot into (divided into 2 stages of course).... I'm using craftsman hose for fuel line covered in heatproof clingwrap.... This motor should at least make about 1500 horsepower once I figure out what the bore and stroke combo is... thanks...

PS-By the way, what are valves??? people have mentioned them to me but i keep forgetting to look it up on google....

My machine shop welcomed my AI heads I brought them, as well as the rest of the items I brought in. They told me if there was ever a problem to come and see them. Sounds like whoever you are dealing with just dosen't want to be bothered to me.
