Default car wont start - HELP!

So i took my battery out today and nhooked the coolant level sensor. i forgot to hook it back it up and went to start the car. all the car did was click near the starter. i tried again and absolutely nothing. no lights, dash, tick, anything, then there was a steady tap under the passenger kick panel. i unhooked hte battery again and tried again and it went through the same cycle. the radio would flicker on and off until i turned it to start and everything went dead again. the positive battery post got VERY hot and it seems like it is drawing excess amps from somewhere. i thought it was the starter, but the car should be able to start on the battery and run for a few minutes. suggestions??????

also, left the battery off for about 30 minutes and went to start it up. the ignition ding turned on and the pump primed. as soon as i turned it to start..... nothing again

did you check the voltage?

that part where you went away for 30 min and then it did a little more sounds like an almost dead battery.
