Default emissions coming up

should I just buy a nice hi-flow cat or pay someone to pass it? if I get the cat then it will pass there after but paying someone will be a yearly thing.

also with my mods what high flow cat will be garanteed to pass. I still have my egr and air and all of that. just no cat with my LT's and ORY.

Maybe a cheap catted y-pipe that you could easily swap out whenever you need to test? I'm curious to know what others are doing besides paying off a mechanic to break the law.

One cat AFTER the y-pipe isn't going to do much, in fact I still doubt you'll pass. Might as well either get a dual catted Y that you can swap in or out (as stated above), or just pay someone. Good luck man.

Didn't the '93-'95 F-bodies only have one cat in the y-pipe? I thought only the '96-'97s had the dual cats.

go with the catted y. finding someone that is willing to pass you is extremely difficult. i speak from experience. i have read that even people with strong h/c combos pass emissions by swapping out injectors and leaning everything out. also i dont think you can put a cat at the end of the y unless yours is a lot shorter than mine (kooks). the cat will hit the driveshaft.

well if i was going to make it permanent i would just cut the y and get the cat welded on.

Well, I purposely added cats to my car for emmissions. I have shorty headers with highflows in the y-pipe in pretty much the same location as stock. I'm considering getting LT's and just swapping in the shorties and catted y for testing which is a big pain in the ***.

Think cutting the ORY and adding a Cat would be cheaper then just swapping pipes to a catted y ?

a single catted y should be adequate. I have a single cat, granted it's stock and huge, but it has been good enough to pass the sniffer here in Ca all the while being at the end of the y. I'd imagine Texas has a more forgiving requirement.

What I did to my car was I took it to a local muffler shop and got them to flange the cat. so it only has to be hooked up once a year for inspection and then I keep it straight thru pipe. It's not to much louder at idle but when you get on the gas then dang. My car picked about a tenth and it only cost $100.

I got the magnaflow cat with a flange welded on for quick removal. Unfortunately, with my combo, I still failed...barely. Leaning it out only made matters worse, perhaps I was a little too lean.

yea i wanted to do the flanged cat and straight pipe but the shops I went to seemed like they didnt understand or couldnt do what I was asking. would a local muffler shop do it? i mean is it legal for them to do it? and here in college station they dont have a sniffer test but im not sure if they look for the cat or not.

but in the case I have to go to houston and get sniffer'ed a single cat on the y would work?

I'm positive that any local exhaust shop that has any f'ing clue what they're doing could put some flanges on a cat and a straight pipe. It's legal as long as you explain that it's for "offroad" use only. If they don't have a sniffer, it's unlikely that they have a visual inspection.
