Why can't LT1's use the crank gear to advance or retard a cam?

Because, with an opti-spark, if you move the cam you move the ignition timing. If you have DFI or a crank trigger you can make up for it.

Why would you want to move the cam? +4 or -4 degrees is a VERY subtle difference, and not really worth the hassle. If you're a racer I can see doing it to tune to the track conditions, but with the LT1/4 it's too much of a hassle to make it worth it.

The cam is on a 105 icl and needs to be on a 108icl.

You will never notice 3 degrees.
