Default Failed Emissions - Need Help

here are the test results:

Hydrocarbons:
Standard - 0.80 Mine - 2.46
Carbon Monoxide:
Standard - 12.00 Mine - 22.02
Nitrogen:
Standard - 2.00 Mine - 5.24

I have pacesetter lt's w/ air and egr, hooker cat back, custom y pipe, qtp cutout, nkgtr55...

The cat i have in there now is small, because the car is lowered, and its the only one that wont scrape, do u think replacing that with a larger one will help. or are there any other suggestions?

Thanks

You might need more than one cat. One on each side right after the collector on the header. I dont know much about testing cause they dont have it where I live. Also they might not be working correctly because of the location. I believe they have to get up to a certain temp to work properly. Maybe they arent getting hot enough there. I would put one on each collector and see what happens, worth a shot IMO.

Try running some Seafoam through it, I've heard it can help emissions quite a bit.

those are crazy numbers, i don't think adding the same cat so ones on both collectors will help. Best bet is to probably carry some benji's with ya the next time you go to a smog shop lol.

pacesetter lt's, hooker cat back, moroso cai, qtp cutout (closed at emissions), ngk tr55 plugs.

I dont know if the whole money thing will work out here, prob not. this sucks, on top of all that my ac clutch tore apart at the rivets

one after each header should do the trick, denatured alcohol i have heard is one way to get gasses to burn hotter and cleaner, do the lt's have emissions hookups? if they dont you have no chance of passing with out that egr i know because my EGR was malfunctioning and it caused me to fail emissions

open your cut-out. lol, that is what I did for like 2 years when I had my cat gutted. It was loud but they didnt say anything. Then when they put the sniffer in my tailpipe they were like "Whoa! This is a really clean running car!" lol, dont know how it worked but it did for the time being. I dont think I am going to try my luck this year with my LT's so I'll just pay someone.

I have the same problem and I also have one cat which is after my Y. Im hoping putting 2 smaller cats after the collectors will help but I dont see how they will fit. BTW I got a waiver its expensive but you may need to get one.

opening the cuttout probibly will not work, at least here in CT if the probe reads a high o2 level (because most of the exhaust is going out the cuttout) it will fail the car.

I would put a pair of cats in, and make sure the car is up to temp when they do the test!

BTW... all those "Guarantee to amke your car pass" addititives are complete garbage, I've never once seen a car pass useing one of them (and I've done over 5,000 cars)

Yep. Best inspection strategy is to have a friend or at least a friend of a friend in the business. Or... bribery as Gun5 suggested.

From what I have seen and read, Cats do not make a huge difference. A properly tuned car that is in excellent mechanical shape will make the biggest difference. Now, if you have a big cam with a lot of overlap, etc. go back to my first sentence. No matter how you tune that bitch, it will probably put out too much emissions.
