Default Problem at 5200 rpm

I have a 93 Lt1 a4 which is the speed density set up. I just replaced the entire opti distributer and cap , rotor ,plugs wires, ect. The car starts poping at 5200 rpm for example when I punch it from a 25 roll it starts to pop, missfires up top, but runs fine when driven normaly.Dosent have a check engine light or anything.

That sounds like classic opti-spark failure.

yeah it definitely sounds like a weak coil to me especially if you just replaced the opti coils when they start to weaken generally cause hard starting when its really cold along with missing under heavy load

now does it feel like a random missfire or does it feel more like one cylinder thats doing it?

seeing as how he JUSt replaced the entire opti....seems more logical for ti to be a coil. I'd get teh MSD balster one from Summit for cheap. I like mine a lot.

its also hard to test the ICM... do a tap test and see if that changes anything... get like a 15mm wrench and just start tapping on the coil and then the ICM... and see if it acts up.. if it does then you know whats giving the problem... this will not always work to find problems... but if you get a reaction thats the problem... never fails...

Real quick...Did this problem occur before, or is this a new problem SINCE you replaced the distributor?

agreed, also might consider new 02's if you haven't already replaced them. I use the cheesy Bosch because Orielly has a 1yr warranty and I replace them about every 2 months just for the hell of it. What condition are your plugs in?

Edit: Forgot to say another vote for the msd blaster coil.

Brett get the Delphi O2s, they have a one year warranty and are much better than the Bosch's imo.

Oh and I replaced the tb cable, so now just to get back to track with those et drags Then I just have to get a new a/c compressor and exhaust back on.

you can get the icm tested, its not exactly hard to take off the car, just a little hot if its been running a bit....

autozone and advance have "tests" that they can run on the ICM. The problem is that they are nothing more then a glorified resistance test and will not reveal much.

It's not a random misfire it only does it at high rpm and come to think of it it is a little hard to start. But if you drive it normal it doesn;t misfire or any thing . I think I'll take your advise and change the coil.

check the conector that goes to the opti spark. The one on the pass. side of the intake. one of the prongs might have pushed up when u pot it back on and not making a good conection. It makes it seem like an opti problem.
