Default Has anyone tried the accel opti yet??

Just curious if it works good or not. I need to get a new opti and although the msd looks awesome I dont want to spend 500.00 when the accel can be had for 199.00 from jcwhitney.

actually, right now they have free shipping on any order over $75 and as long as you dont live in IL there is no tax so the total cost would be $199.00. though I guess no one has tried one yet to see if they are any good or not so i am probably gonna wait....
What should i look for on my existing opti? The car it came out of was running fine when i bought the drive train but I washed the motor down before I took the motor to have it rebuilt and from what i have heard I probably ruined it. I thought about just repacing the cap and rotor and seeing what would happen. Is there any way to check it with it off the engine? This is from a 1995 model so it is the vented unit....

I think for the price of a new vented opti from DAL (like $234) as long as you purchase a new vent harness you get a 2yr warranty on an opti that has proven itself. The accel opti uses olite(sp) bushings, which is questionable compared to the bearings that even the factory opti uses. PLus besides a cap and rotor accel isnt offering any parts to repalce anything on the opti.

How can anyone say it's crap? Ive seen more MSD failure threads than accel opti failure threads. With that said it wouldnt go anywhere near my car but I really would like to see how it withstands the test of time. I'd also like to see one disassembled.

well it's Made IN china . I've only seen one MSD opti product failure on here, are there more? There was one on the impalaforum but it was questionable as to whether or not it was properly installed.

the one i saw was just the cap and rotor failure... and that was a back spark... more than likely cause by bad plug wires... when the spark has nowhere to go... it looks for the quickest way to a ground and in that case was through the rotor... so its still questionable on either one...

running count so far I have seen (heard of):

4 Summit opti's gone.
2 Acell opti's gone.
2 dynasparks gone
2 MSD cap and rotor failures
1 MSD opti gone.

Validity and cause of these failures are not my responsibility to prove or disprove. Gotta love disclaimers.

HBH... where have you heard of the MSD opti failing... i havent heard of one yet... and i kinda figured the summits would be at the top of that list.. those look like junk period.. im curious about the MSD just to see exactly what the guy said happend... or why he think it failed... cap and rotor failure or a opti sensor failure...

IIRC Summit Optis are just rebaged Accel Units.

Was the MSD opti failure listed on here? and was there a given cause of failure. Not that I think the MSD opti is the answer to everything, but would be possible to have an operator installation error or lazyiness to replace an old vent harness that could be damaged

the harness comes with the opti... so if he didnt change that... well that was his own stupidity... they give you a brand new one...

Dynaspark suplies them also. Why is it so hard to believe a msd unit went bad? It sounds like youre trying so hard to prove it couldve, to the point of favortism. Do you have one

im always an underdog....... im not saying i dont believe it went bad... i just want to know how and possibly why... if that person knows so... this has been the big topics on the boards lately... so im sure everyone else wants to know as well.... if the MSD fails and how soon...
