Unhappy Got my aldl cable now what!!!!

Just got my cable from akm and i installed the cd and wired up my ecu and tried using tunerpro but i got nothing.

needless to say i have never done this before and im in the dark. i all so down loaded datamaster and wasted one of my 20 free cause i didnt know what i was doing.

Can any one tell me how to get my laptop to start talking to my car?

Thanks

The easiest program to use while troubleshooting the ALDL connection is PCMcomm.

Download it here: http://carputing.tripod.com/pcmcomm.exe

Fire that up, select the COM port where the USB adapter is (under Setup...), hit Action... Connect... and it should start talking.

Your USB adapter needs to be installed on one of the COM1 thru COM4 settings. If it installed as COM5, you need to move it. That can be done by following this procedure:

http://akmcables.com/usb/xpcom/xpconfig.htm

Try PCMcomm, and let us know. I'll be around.

also make sure your keys are turned to the on or acc posisition, or the car is full started for it to start reading. sounds stupid, but i forgot to do it a few times ;x

on a side note i need to get around to buying a usb cable ... my serial cable needs to go! no more serial laptop ports :O

what year ecu are you running?

i've never used tuner pro, but i was looking at there web site and it looks like it only works with eproms

to get datamaster working

what com port do you have the cable plugged into. mostlikely its com 1.
you need to go into record adl. then goto setup com port and choose the correct com port.

then it should beable to scan.
go ahead and start the car, let it run for a few seconds. then start a scan. give it a few seconds then stop. save it and then it should show you your codes.

(sent in PM, but will repost here)

I haven't tried TunerPro with an LT1. I've used it with my Moates AutoProm and my 79 Z28 (it's got a TBI fuel system on it). But I don't think it supports the flash based 94-95 LT1 cars.

Tunercat's well worth it. It'll do everything you want. And then some.
