Cool How do you jack your rear?

I need to get under the rear of my car tomorrow to install an inline fuel pump. I have a jack, and 2 sets of jackstands. My question is how do you jack up the rear high enough to get sliding/moving access under the car? My jack barely reaches the pumpkin cover from the side of my car because the rear is so far into the car. Also, the sway bar prevents me from using my jackstands on the rear end without removing the bar, *I guess that means I should just remove it? . Advice welcome.

back it up on block or somethin so it can get high enough to be juscked by the rear end. just center it at the dif housing. My car is dropped about 1" 1-1/2" in the rear but i can remove half of my bar to jack it with so the jack handle is only about 2" feet long then.

Jack in front of the LCA bolt. That way your lifting the body, and not wasting jack height by just lifting the rear into the body.

you cant reach the pumpkin from the rear of the car?? do you have a small jack? if you have one of the small 2 ton jacks I would jack it up from the side where the LCAs mount to the body then put the stand underneath it, then see if you can reach the pumpkin, if not repeat on the other side.

Getting it under the pumpkin was tough with the little jack, so I used to
jack it up from the side (like I was going to change a rear tire), put it
on a stand, then use the clearance to get under the pumpkin and
lift it way up. Then put jackstands under the axle and call it good.

This year, I went out and bought a nice low profile Nascar-style jack.
It makes life so much easier.

I use old steel rims under the rear tires after jacking under the pumpkin. You have a little extra jacking to do but it eliminates duplication of effort doing one side at a time. The reason I use the rims under the tires is because my car fell on me once. I was very close to crushing my upper body and skull.

wow! glad you're ok!

Ok, I'm going to put some wood under each tire, and see if i can get a little extra clearance to maneuver it, I think it should work.

That was a few years ago. I like the rims cuz they act as a bowl around the tires and there's no way it can roll. They are from a fertilizer buggy I think so they have that deep offset on them.

Not to steal the thread, but once I was under my TA changing the oil, well I told my mom to jump in a start it so I could maybe follow a leak and see where it came from, well I could see anything after like 5 minutes, so I told her to turn it off, and the car turned off and I see the TA jerk forward about 2 or 3 inches, and I started screaming and got out from underneath it as fast as I could I looked at the Jack Stands and they were doing a leaning tower of Piza impression. I asked my mom what the heck happened and she said she turned it off and then let off the clutch, I nearly crapped myself.
