Stupid question about 93 transmissions
What tells the tranny when to shift on a A4 93 setup? I'm guessing vaccum if so then couldnt you use a 94 computer programed for a 6 speed? I know it sounds dumb but humor me.

It runs off the TV cable for outer inputs and that is about it.
If you swap to the 94-95 PCM you will need one for an A4 with all the codes tuned out. The reason is a M6 has a 16 tooth Reluctor(I think might be 19) and the A4 uses a 40 tooth. If you use the M6 file the speedo will be a PITA to dial in.
If you need help with the file let me know

I have a mad dog stage 2 trans in one of my 93 cars and the tv cable is broke. The trans now has real soft shifts and I was told not to drive it until it's fixed. So yea the tv cable controls the shifts. If I manually shift it it's fine. That's being fixed today.

I'm not real sure if mine's adjusted right or not. I read that you pull the throttle to WOT while pressing the cable "adjuster" on the cable and you're done. My transmission shifts way too early.
