Default 3.42 Rear End

My question to ya'll is if I have a A4 1997 z28 will the rear end of a 2000 SS fit in my camaro with the 2000 Camaro original wiring harness from the rear. If not what all do I have to change to fit my 97. My second question is that if I have 3.23 in the rear will I see a difference with the 3.42's and is the 3.73's a great difference from 3.42's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks 1SICSS

As far as the first part of your question is concerned, I don't know. I have an A4 and had 3.42' installed and had 3.23's previously. I just wrote a thread concerning the 3.42 to 3.73 jump. While I am convinced that 4.10's for an auto are best for drag racing, they suck for everyday drivers.

I concluded this when looking at the gear calculator and determined at freeway cruising the 3.73's won't kill you at 80-85 mph. The 4.10's are horrible on the freeway. If you have 3.23's and plan on this being a daily driver, go with the 3.73's. It makes sense on the gear calculator and is the consensus of the majority of members on this site as the ideal choice for a street/strip compromise. i have 3.42's and I am going with the 3.73's. Hope this helps.

If you drive your car a lot, the 3.42 would make an excellent gear for the street in my opinion. If you don't have a big cam, probably wouldn't need much bigger anyway. However, more gearing is needed when running low HP but there's always a give and take.

I swapped an 3.42 m6 rear axle into my car. I felt a big difference between the 2.73's that were in it and the 3.42's. My rear came out of an lt1 car so it bolted right up. You'll probably need the rear ls1 brakes on the axle as well because they are bigger.

I don't think you'll really see much of a difference between the 3.23's and 3.42's IMO.

Probably have ABS issues going from the 4 channel LS1 back to the 3 channel LT1 (but being 97 you might already have 4 channel ABS, not sure).
