Default EGR code

Hey guys i got a code and my friend today at work read it for me and says that my EGR is malfuctioning. I wonder what could possibly be causing this or is it just clogged. What are the effects of a clogged or malfuctioning EGR i have noticed my car is running very rich and have lost alot of gas mileage even though i don't drive it often. If cleanable how would i go about cleaning it. Thanks for any info guys

A bad EGR could cause a pinging or pre-ignition if it is not working at all, or a very rough idle if it is stuck open, but it shouldn't affect fuel mixture.

what is the easiest way to go about cleaning the EGR valve. Is there a way to clean it or just get a new one.

Default 91.75

91.75 is how much a new one is. I just bought one today. Id recommend doing that too. All there is to it is getting a 1/2 inch wrench and taking the 2 nuts off the back and slipping the hose off the top. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this when its cold. Even if you dont want to buy one at least make it easy and take it off for a good cleaning job. Replace the gasket too when you put it back on.

thanks guys just got done with the job did not seem that bad my check engine light went off. I removed it and soaked it with carb and choke cleaner chunks of carbon fell out of it. The gasket seemed very fresh so i did not bother replacing it. We will see how it runs now i first thought i had a Miss fire when my check engine light came on i hope this is why it was idiling ruff.
