Default motor locked up, 3.5gal of water in oil ****updated pics

New 355 with 1000miles on it
was driving under 5mph in 1st gear when a noise similar to
the sound of trying to start your car while its already running (spline/gear whine)
motor shut off and will not start back

when key is turned the balancer moves, but then returns to its origional position, the clutch pedal is fine, the tranny goes into all gears without a problem

pulled the plugs, tried to manually turn motor...still seized....

drained the oil and 3.5gal of oil and coolant came out.

whats the next step???pull the heads and see whats salvagable???

Where do we begin??

Who built the motor?
Wrong head gaskets?
Improperly decked block or head?
Old or improperly bolted/torqued head bolts?
No sealant goop on the head bolt threads?
Are the heads ported into the coolant passages?
Improperly prepped block?
Cracked block?
All these questions point to an improperly built motor.

Pull the heads. If you're very lucky, the problem is with the heads and if you didn't bend a rod, the short block can be reused.

Better yet, pull the motor and give it back to the shop that built it. They need to see what they did wrong and stand behind their work. Surely there's a warranty.

Good luck!

Make sure you have the Coolant Line on back of the Heads, lots of people have blown them up.

shitty deal, I hope you went though a good shop that will admit their error if it was their fault.

No bueno. Is there any way that this could be caused by something else besides a screw up by the builder?

Also wouldn't it hydrolock before 1000 miles?

Perhaps it was in the head gaskets and they held for a little while before they finally blew out. Maybe a bolt didn't get torqued or something......

Exclamation With that much..

coolant in the oil, the bearings ARE TOAST. Especially, if the coolant was antifreeze..

At that volume of coolant, [3.5 gal-6 qts oil] the oil pump was providing ZERO lube to the brgs....

Pull it out, and do it right.

Well from the images. It doesn't look good unfortunately. You will also want to visually check the rod to make sure it is not damaged. Have you determined what caused the problem. Did the valve drop or did a coolant leak start the damage?

Well I made a post on cz28 about a month ago about disappearing coolant. Pulled the engine out (actually a bunch of badass friends did since im at school right now and the car is 100 miles away) and the oil drained consist of about a third of water/coolant. This is on a 95 z28 with 116000 miles. Trying to figure out the most cost efficient way of getting it running again. Im pretty sure since there are so many miles on it and not knowing how many miles of those were with water in the oil that the bottom end is toast. Ive seen a few short blocks on here for pretty cheap..............What would you do...Funds are very limited

I can back that one up, that's partially why I am building a new motor.

Was the reason found why you had all of that coolant in the Engine all over the place?

find one in a bone yard. a Fleetwood with a perfectly fine engine sold for 500 on ebay becasue the rear quarter and door were f*cked. Not a bad deal if you ask me. it had 150k on it, but new crank and rod bearings, throw the f-body heads(no more flow than the irons, but a bit more comression) and a new cam, and call it a day.

did coolant actually run through it? or did it just come out of the head when the vavle was broken... if the engine stopped when that happend then no coolant was run though the bearings...
