Default Ported Stockers Vs. Entry Level Aftermarket Heads

I was just pondering this question. Would a person be better off buying a set of..let say for arguement a set of the 1,359.95 Trickflow heads and picking a cam. Or doing an extensive porting job/cam package like an LE2 or LE3? I think the cost would fall in close to the same. I was just curious. Bottom line I guess witch should put down more power?

Off the top I would say the LE2's would make more power because you lose c/r with the TF's on stock N/A cars.

I've got factory castings that were re-valved, ported, and polished and am very happy with the numbers. I probably could have gone a little larger on the valves but went with the machinist recommendations. The numbers below are with a 224/236-112LSA cam on the factory re-worked heads (we did find a problem with the valvetrain which has been corrected so I'm hoping the numbers will be better when I go for my re-tune).

ship them off to either LE or AI....those are two of the best lt1 head porters that frequent these sites...you won't be dissapointed...not ot mention the package includes a cam, so you save another couple hundred buck right there.

I agree. Aftermarket heads have not really outshined the stocks, atleast in as-cast form.

Many very highly respected LT1 headshops prefer 2.0/1.56 valves over the old 2.02/1.6 valves most newbies believe they need.

I run a similar duration cam and using my 12.5 at 107mph run from back in june and my 4250 raceweight comes out to 406rwhp according to every online MPH/weight+HP calculator I could find. AI gets my vote, this was on a mailorder tune too not a dyno tune and through full ehaust etc. it is a daily driver that gets some time at the track not the other way around.

I agree . Port the stockers. Look at my sig with LE2 heads and a baby CC503 in a 4400LB boat.
