Default did i mess up my optispark timing

Hello I just the opti replacement on my 95 lt1 and now it wont start, I sounds like the timing is way off because I know its firing because it kind of backfires but only it blows air through the throttle body and not the normal Pop sound. When I put it in I made sure it was on the right slot and seated it by hand then tightened bolts as far as I could tell. Did I do this wrong because I didn’t do the cylinder #1 at TDC method. I also broke the opti wiring harness pretty good so im not sure if that’s the problem because at first it wouldn’t even fire but now it dose, I just had to press it in more. I already ordered a new one. Thanks for the help guys

the opti will only go on one way. as long as it was a sealed AC delco unit and not an MSD (IIRC they make you install the rotor after you put the opti on) there's no way to get anything off. I'd fix the harness

You should not have had to pull the opti into the block with the bolts, if you did it's on wrong. When it's seated properly, the flange tabs on the opti will lay flat against the block. If it's indexed off just a tiny bit then it will stick out like 1/8 inch and appear ok, but it's off.... and if yo broke the harness (the part that looks like a stick of gum) then that's it....

if you look at the instructions, they make you install the rotor and cap yourself when you get it..
