bought a used motor, and it came with aftermarket parts
I got a 97 LT1 from a trans am and started taking it apart to clean and inspect it. to my surprise, it's full of aftermarket parts.
i found crane cams roller rockers, dual valve springs and retainers, and hollow chromoly pushrods. this made me suspect it may have an aftermarket cam too
so i kept digging and found this. it appears to be a regrind. it says 705 GMPT BC 15 on it...is that the part number for the stock cam? i'm not too terribly familiar with this motor yet, just enough to get myself in trouble i really want to find out the specs on this cam.
i got it from a guy who said it was his friend's. now i'm suspicious of why he didn't mention all these goodies.

i wasn't really planning on doing a complete teardown of the motor, but i think i'll rest easier knowing exactly what's in it, especially after what i've found so far.
i'll probably get the heads off tonight or this weekend and have a look.
i'm just glad i hadn't ordered any parts yet...believe me, i'd been shopping around

it looks like the Roller rockers are self centering to me. with the tabs to hold them inplace? makes me wonder why the rockers/springs atleast were not sold. I know I sure would.

think he meant he would sell that stuff separately instead of with the motor.
i wonder too. i think the guy i bought it from didn't know, since he said it was his friend's, who crashed. if that's true, his friend probably hates him now

man if it wa smy motor I would tear it down to nothing....just to know exactly whats in it. As long as you are capable of a careful teardown and re-assembly....Tear it down man...

Thunder Racing will Cam Doctor the cam for like 25 bucks. You'd know exactly what you're dealing with.
I have a Cam Motion solid roller cam that came with my 383 LT1. I have no idea of the exact specs (somewhere in the 240's I'm told). I'm going to send it to Thunder so that I have something to list when I throw it up for sale.
Depending on how much you paid, you may have scored. Always nice to find more than you expected tho.

I would at least pull the heads off, and take off the oil pan to get a good look at some things without tear apart the motor.
