180 degrees, most mechanics will tell you that is wrong though hell so will most gearheads not familiar with this engine. The different from normal cooling circuit uses a non-standard 180 degree stat stock don't let anyone convince you otherwise. It is also specific to this engine using twoplates to control flow rather than just one.

you're not going to maximize the use of a 160* Tstat unless you get a tune..

the stat is 180, fans come on at deg F 226º "OFF" at 221º and secondary fan "ON" at 235º "OFF" at 230º, i would tune the turn on and off fan temps, on the PCM they will be deg C, sometimes using a lower stat well actually make the car run hotter do to the fact that the coolant wont stay in the radiator long enough to get cooled

The LT1 will go into closed loop with WAY under 160 degree coolant tamp as long as the O2s are heated up and working. The "stuck in open loop" thing is for older cars. That said, yeah you need programming to get the most out of a 160.

How does a stat that opens sooner cause the coolant to flow faster thru the radiator? The coolant flowing faster making your engine run hotter is BS anyway.

I have pulled my stat and it just takes longer for engine to get up to running temp. Once there the temp stays the same as with a 160* stat.

I just took out my 160* the other day and replaced it with stock in order to pass emissions. (My HC levels were high) The temp does not stay the same as with the 160*

I agree, mine also runs higher with the 180 stat than with the 160. In my previous post I meant there was no stat.
