Default What is that faint knocking sound???

I have started the process of LE head and cam install, but just before I was under the car and heard a very faint knocking or ticking noise come from the rear of the block near the bell housing and oil pan. It is not severe and may even be the roller rockers, but I cant quite tell.

It is most noticable under the car at the back of the block at idle. When it is reved it does not get any louder. Even when driving and hammering on it no knocking sound heard. Cant hear it at all at idle up top with the hood up.

I had the rod bearings go out on my Jeep, knocked very loud while driving. Definitely does NOT sound like that.

78K on the clock and good oil pressure. Is this faint knocking sound normal when you are under the car? Could it be my RR's or am I on the way to bad rod bearings? Again it is not loud or violent, not like a hammer against the block.

I had a tiny exhaust leak at the driver collector, but again tiny. The sound is more of a knock than a tick.
Thanks

Throw out bearing rattling. I had one that knocked like a rod bearing on time but it started out like what you are saying. have someone push the clutch in and see if it goes away while you listen

It's probably the torque converter. It's not going bad they just make some noise. I've got a new gm converter and I finished rebuilding the engine and it has the same noise.

I have it too and I think it's whats causing my ping :\ No clue what it is. I thought the ping was the O2 sensor, but no luck after changing it. Maybe I'll have to replace the other side too :\
