Yea u need the canton pick up. Which is WAY better than the junk stocker that covers up half the screen, so crap can get in there and starve your motor on oil.

thats odd, my 396 didn't have to have a Canton pickup and it works like a champ. In fact thats one of the selling bonuses of using the Canton pan I used was I could still use the stock pickup, just remarked for 7 qts. My Canton pan was for an LT1 so not sure why yours is any different. If you talk to their tech, forgot his name now, he assured me the stock pickup would fit fine and was correct.

got it down in my Jeep...gimme a few to go get it...BRB

ok back...it's a Canton Road Race oilpan PN#15242T. This one cleared the BMR Kmember, KOOKS headers, stock pickup worked fine. Only thing I couldn't use with this pan was the low level oil sensor due to where the KOOKS primary came down.

no ****...well she doesn't get cranked without her oil and a dozen other things getting checked first, but then again it's not a grocery getter...ok well I occasionally use it to get groceries still.

we used a hex bolt plug and still had to shave half of the hex head off to leave about 1/8" clearance between the header and hex. If I did it again I'd weld shut that hold completely, or if I ever drop the pan for whatever reason, or take off the headers I'll do the same.

I would not use the stock pickup IMO. I use the canton 6 quart pan and was able to use my low oil sending unit, but I have Hooker Long tubes.

Brett do you run 7 quarts in the pan or 6?

I do have the #15-242t(same as yours) pan with a melling high volume pump. I have run 6 quarts for a while now without a problem, extra quart probally cant hurt.

Yea. Canton pan #15-242t,
melling High volume pump, and the canton pick up(cant find the part number) is what I run without a problem.

Know what think your right, it's a 6qt I believe...I run 6 to 7 though and it's fine. I used the Canton pickup also along with the better shaft, better spring and Canton's blueprinted pump.

yea I was not about to use the stock drive rod with the PLASTIC conector. When I took my motor apart my dad and I saw that and were like WTF. Yea figure with the filter and all you could probaly run 7 without a problem.

I saw on cantons website the company CW oil filters, where you would just buy the filter element and reuse the metal canister. Anyone use one?
