Default misfiring like crazy

Replaced the opti and wiring harness for it about a month ago because the car was struggling to start and then just stopped starting. I thought it was something in the fuel system so I started off by changing the filter then the pump and checking the injectors. Nothing worked. So we moved onto the ingnition system and it ended up being a deteriorated wiring harness for the opti and a vent tube that was being pinched that caused the opti to fail. Now a month later I have a horrible misfire and it got so bad that I barely could make it hope because it was misfiring so bad.

Most of the time it sounds like just one cylinder is not misfiring and it was mostly in low rmps, once I would hit 3000rpm it would run on all 8.

Then it got to the point if I opened the throttle any more than 35-45% it would misfiring under any kind of load but at idle it would run fine.

Then it got to the point where it wouldn't even idle fine.
So I changed all the wires since it's one of the easier things to do and still have the same problem.
Checked all the plugs they seem fine and tested all of them and they seem fine. Still have the same problem.

I didn't bother to change the cap and rotor when I swapped out the opti just because of money at the time. Anyone have any kind of insight as to what this could be? I'm thinking about just going to the LTCC system since I have the money after x-mas and b-day.
Can someone please help tho so I can figure out what it is before I drop a ton of money?

How new is your coil? Did you replace the coil wire as well?

Another possibility is your ICM. It can commonly cause mis-fire issues anywhere from midrange to WOT.

I had a coil wire go bad and it would only miss under a load. It would rev fine with no load but in gear I couldn't go over 1/4 throttle without a terrible miss. Is the coil wire brand new? Mine went bad when it was only 6 months old and I bought them new. Since yours only does it under load it must be electrical. Is the ICM grounded good? I've heard of that causing problems.

I think its a bad idea to go swtiching to a delteq or LTCC system hoping it will solve your problems. If you were dead sure if was the cap and rotor thats one thing but, its alot of money to blow only to find out you might have some other problem.

talk about blowing money on **** you think is wrong...im the king of that ive probly spent somewhere around 2,000 and havent fixed my problem yet.

By the way hyperzone...I really like you reply to my question. That a good way to show people. I was calling that the electronic spark control module....I am going to replace mine tomaro...hoping that i can fix my car. A new coil wire will come also. Almost everything on my ignition is new. Besides the computer. All ingnition components on my car are less that 8 months old.

On that coil...the wires that are pluged in on the right, does it have 2 prongs or 1. On my coil the left side had two and the right had 1. And i thought i might have broke it off.

yea i know but I can try to fix it by changing the ICM and Coil, I recently changed the coil wire, but then if that doesn't work then i have no idea what to do besides change the opti out again with the cap and rotor which in the end would be exactly what I don't want to do lol. i dunno I'll be working on it all day

If it is the ICM you would have a Start/Run/Stall situation or crank/no start. I've went through a few of those things. You can also have those things checked at a local parts store. I bought one that was bad, I had it checked before I left the store.

I'm kind of sketchy when you say. "Opti/cap and rotor". Did you just do a cap and rotor repair or did you just replace the whole Opti? Sometimes the problem lies with the wheel and the optical pickup. If that's the case then a Cap/Rotor kit won't fix it. You'll need to replace the whole unit. The only way of checking that part is to take the Opti apart.

we just replaced the optical sensor portion. i had to go back to school after a weekend of getting my car towed back home and working on it with no luck. Since I have to pay for most everything and being a college student whose parents don't help all that much with financial **** my dad who was kind enough to work on the car for me while I was at school told me that would be the cheapest thing to do. I understand it is better off changing everything at once. But at the time I had very little $$ for disposal and no way of getting around for school and work.

Back on topic. I bought a new coil and plugs today and waiting on an ICM to get to the local auto parts store. If I could actually get the car to one I'd have them check it out, but it barely gets out of the driveway with out stuttering, misfiring, backfiring like crazy and barely wants to move. The new coil is in, and 4 of the new spark plugs, just taking a break because I had to crap really bad and see what ya'll had to say.

Just got done replacing coil, wires, and plugs, it is running a little better but still missing. 1st gear it runs normal, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ect it is missing throughout the rpm range after maybe 1/2 throttle.

check for arching on the plug wires also. had that prob in my lt1 before. it was to close to a header tube and the spark arched over to it, killed the wire in the process.

I guess its time to upgrade to the MSD opti or just the cap and rotor?
