What cam to use in my LT1? I know I will need to up the converter, valve springs, probably the lifters even though they cost a ton. I want the car to lope like there' no tommorow (ofcourse to the extent of a computer controlled car's capability). Will probably need to have the pcm tuned for the cam and some larger fuel injectors (Expecially since there will be nitrous involved). Who has done it?

I would go custom...actually i did. I had the exact request when placing the order, i wanted something bigger then the hot cam and GM846 but not too big for the stock heads, and i wanted the dam thing to beat. AI made mine and the rough specs are 224/234 on a 110 lobe sep, i've been having issues with it so i dont know really how well it will lope at idle, but i have gotten it to sit down close to it and it sounds wicked. I would go custom

My engine doesn't lope with a plug wire pulled. It hammers at a light miss. so yeah, that probably wouldn't work. What do I want to do with the car? I want to get in in the morning fire it up and smile. The performance is a plus, but that is what the nos is for. I had an iroc back in the day which I built a motor for. I put in some domed pistons for 11:1 compression, ported/polished heads, the msd b.s. and all the works. I also stabbed a 530 lift cam. Loped like hell. I loved it. So a custom cam huh? Been hearing people say that put a custom cam in. I just don't intend to do a whole lot of custom work to the motor unless the $ comes in faster so I figured a production cam would work. May look into that although. How do you idle down? Have to buy a diagnostics programmer? Did yall have the pcm reprogrammed to hold these cams or can you get away without it? What injectors? What valve springs, lifters ect.

another vote for the CC306.... or the 236/242 off the shelf from comp cams.... very similar specs to the 306 only it's a more modern Xtreme Energy line of cams from comp..... lift is .544/.576 with a 112lsa... but good luck tuning it with a stock PCM.... it can be done but it might take a few tries from a good tuner.....

So ya think an aftermarket pcm will work out better? Seems like I could send this sucker down to pcm's for less and have it tuned to the cam specs right? If not, what programmer do I buy? Can the stock lifters handle it? What about valve springs?

You need to take it to a tuner and get it dyno tuned, a mail order tune should only be temporary, and the stock pcm is fine. I would get replacement lifters and some good valve springs, depends on your lift. As far as the GM847, i know people are adament that its not too big but i personally wouldnt ever do it on a stock head, cam only car. I asked for the biggest that AI would go with with stock heads and they gave me 224/234 the 847 is 234/244, i would trust AI, they know their stuff

Comp told me that the 503 was the way to go cause it will lope a bit, but I can easily have the stock computer tuned to it and it won't require me to rev the motor to 66 or 6800 to get power out of it. Has anyone here tried the cc306 with a factory rev limit and a factory mail in tuned pcm? If the rev limit can be reset, is there a safe rev limit that will accomodate the cc306 cam? I don't want to over cam the motor, but am looking for the meanest lope and people have mostly said cc306.

I'm not going to spend a ton of money on a custom cam for a barely custom car. It's not heads up car or even bracket. Just a toy. I want it to sound great. And yes, I have been researching. That's what this is. I called comp, learned more about lobe seperation and lift. I think the cc306 may work cause I noticed it operates between 1800 and 5800 rpm. I shift at six, so the cam will operate on my powerband. I just want to know if it will work with my computer is I send it in the be programmed. See there--- research. Quit acting like your **** is better than everyone else's just cause we are trying to learn. You are on a running your car on a different level than I am. I am just simply wanting a good sounding, nice running street car. 1 question------ cc306 on stock pcm reprogram or not?
