Default Best was to get a 305 long block into the back of a truck

Its just two guys. We dont have a cherry picker. Can Anyone think of any clever ideas of how to get one into the back of a truck. I may be wrong but im thinking these things weigh around 500 pounds its a cast iron block.

I got my LT1 sitting on a pallet from the truck to the ground with Me and another guy that has a bad ankle....

What about using a dolly and set up some boards for ramps up to the back of the truck? Obviously 1/4" plywood and a cheapass dolly wontl cut it but, it might be easier than lifting it in with only two guys.

how big is the truck ? If the engine is on an engine stand you may beable to just wheel it up to the back of the truck and get creative. For example, set some or all the air out of the rear tires of the truck, or jack up the front of the truck. If the truck is low enough sometimes you get lucky and can wheel it right it the bed, of course thats if it is on a engine stand.
I use to get this method to work on a 2wd S-10.

You don't need to pull the heads, bolt the exhaust manifolds back up and use them for handles. Fully dressed they only weigh 575 lbs with cast iron everything. I load them all the time with one other person and I have only one arm that works! Before my motorcycle wreck I could load them by myself.

Invest in a a picker.

I woud not want to lift anything block wise with my strong arms...thats what hydraulic jacks are for.

Good Luck.

get 4 long 3/8 bolts, put 2 in the back trans bolts holes and 2 in the water pump holes or heads, that will give you something to grab onto, proform makes actual handles

I've put an LT1 shortblock out of my old 92 Vette and my 97 Z28 on to and out of my 95 Ranger bed to be rebuilt by myself. I am not a very strong guy either. Just used my legs and picked them. Two guys should have no problem picking up a 305 even if its the long block

Lift with your legs, not your back. Otherwise you'll be hating life tomorrow. Just do it like a deadlift.

All of you must be bad asses. I wouldn't trust myself with such tasks. A friend and I moved a shortblock the other day and it wasn't too bad. I couldn't imagine putting it in a truck with heads on it though! That same friend and two others lifted a 5.0 out of a Mustang once....so he says. He stood up on the shock towers with the other two guys on the front corners. I'm having a hard time believing it though.

I picked up my 350 Block and walked it into the Garage, set it on the bench, bolted the stand bracket to it, and then put it on the Engine Stand. That's about 225lbs. If yours if about 600lbs, betya my skinny *** and a couple of guys from work can pick it up..

My Dad and I moved an old 305 once, no heads, from the ground to his truckbed.
