Default No muffler?

I have a 94 A4 Z28 with LT headers, matching Y-pipe, with the stock I pipe going through a dynomax muffler. The car is actually pretty quiet and i would like it louder. I don't want a cut out, because then it would be too loud and they never stay completely shut correctly. Anyway, can i just the pipe before it gets to the muffler and not have a muffler? I asked the person who tuned my car and he said it shouldn't be a problem, the car will just be louder. Apparently, if anything my car may be slightly faster. He said something about how i could lose torque, but it wouldn't be noticeable and the HP gain would be more than that.

So, what do you guys think? Should i cut it there to make the car a little louder, or is this a bad idea? I like the idea, because if i don't like it, a pipe can always be welded back and sound the same again...

It actually looks just like that, except instead of going to a bullet and dumping, it goes to a dynomax super turbo muffler and has the two stock pipes out the back. Im thinking about cutting the pipe right about where yours is, but not taking off the muffler. This way, it gives an illusiuon that the tips are still functional. (i like the way the stock tips look)

Dude, cutout = no muffler. The only difference is that the cutout angles out.

The cutout will be wicked loud with that setup..mine is not as loud, but deep. A friend of mine has a cutout, it's loud and raspy, no gut to it at all. The Bullet adds the base in it.

So, what do you think? Should i have it cut before the muffler? Basically that means i'll have the mervs set up, except for the bullet. So, it may be a little louder...

IMO, a cut-out alone without a Muffler is too loud and raspy. That's just me though..

Yeah, i don't like how raspy it gets. But, do you think it will sound alright the way i want to do it? I don't see it being too raspy where i plan on cutting it.

My setup without the Muffler was wicked loud.. I ran it for a night cause I ran out of time at the shop to put my Muffler on, I got pulled over twice within a hour, got 2 warnings, and that wasn't racing it at all. It seriously is too loud. I like mine, it's not loud, just deep. It's like feel it in your chest deep.

Well, it would be loud if you didn't have the stock I-pipe. Without that, after your pipe, you had nothing, right? I'm going to still have the length of my I-pipe, but then cut before the muffler.

What do you call an I-pipe, mine had a aftermarket Cat-back on it when I got it.

Merv,
Does your car sound very drowny at highway speeds. From what I hear dumps get really annoying on the highway. Just wondering how oyur set up does...

After the aftermarket Y-pipe, it goes into a single pipe (the I-pipe), then into a single muffler that splits into two out the back.

His exhaust sounds like a old school muscle, you know like BBC camaro. Sounds wicked. If you want a best sounding LT1 get his set up, one word... badass.

I dont think its a good idea to ditch the muffler. It typically wont sound as good. I vote to keep a muffler. Oh and dont keep any fake pipes for the impression that they are still functional --- that seems a little

here's mine with the TSP x-pipe setup (two dumps under the car):

LT's and TSP X-pipe

HEY MERV: you got any videos of what that y-pipe and one dump sounds like? I'm curious...

You could mount the cutout in the back, mine is mounted right about in front of the rear tire, I'm cheap and use one you have to manualy uncap, and this seemed like a good location for easy access. And I don't have any exhaust entering the car.

My car has shorties instead of longtubes, but here is a vid of it, BBK shorties, BBK ypipe, 3" flowmaster catback, open cutout.open cutout

Edit: Oh yeah, no cat.
