If its not actually getting low, water expands and contracts with temp changes, then its probably the sensor itself.

New coolant level sensors are cheap from GM.

If you unplug the sensor the light will go away.

if it annoys you as much as it did me, just unplug it. as long as you take care of your car, and check fluids ... you will be fine. its kind of like the low oil light ... if that comes on, you should just be smacked.

Yeah that seems to be a common problem on these. Just get a new sensor and you should be fine.

Mine did it then I flushed the system and it went away. I was told because a peice of dirt gets in the way of the sensor so it goes off. I would recommend flushing the system its good to do and fixed my low coolant light.

I just unpluged mine. I figure if I am not smart enough to check the fluid its my own falt that it overheated.

havent worked on the car since the opti about a year ago.... ***crossing fingers hoping it stays that way****

Kinda noob question, sorry to jack thread, although I think it's dead. I'm wondering since the "light problem" happened to me today. Where can I buy a kit to flush the system with, or can I just take it somewhere, I'm worried with the reverse cooling setup, some dumbass will screw it up. I have tools and am mechanically inclined enough to do it, just wondering.

Also, the system defintely needs to be flushed, I pulled the stick in the overflow and there was sludge all over it. I've read that is common with dexcool, when it's mixed with other coolants, right?

Im a first time psoter on this site but i was just reading through the forum i have the same problem happened to me and i asked one of the guys that i work with at a chevy dealership and he told me that the coolant sensor on high mileage cars gets gunked up with old coolant. he told me to pull the sensor out and clean it off as best u can and put it back in and if it comes back on there may be a short in the sensor causing it to come on meaning its time to by a new one.

I always flushed my coolants systems with water. Drain the radiator and fill it with water numerous times, run the engine a while to circulate it and repeat.
