which stall speed?
Hello everyone, im new here and im currently putting a 95 lt1 and 4l60e from an impala into my 90 fullsize chevy truck. My plans for it are a hot cam kit, gasket matched ports, full bolt-on's, and a dynotune 150 wet shot kit with all of the safety's. i was going to get an s10 torque converter which stalls around 2400 but know im unsure. Do you think this might not be enough? on Yank's site it recommends 3600. Let me know your opinions please because i want to have a nice matched setup and dont want to waste money buying things twice. BTW the s10 converter is 250bux compared to 450+ for a Yank or TCI

3600 is great, I love mine, but I dont drive mine as DD. I could but choose not to due to gas prices. IMO for your set up I would go with a 3000, if you plan on driving it alot.

Nitrous will destoy a Dacco, one of the guys on the Impala board was pushing Daccos for a while siting his grand sucess on his bolton/nitrous car up till a year later when it blew which will usually take out the tranny.
I would say go with a Edge, Yank, Vig in the 2800-3200 range, want to keep the stall a little on the lower side of what you would use for that cam NA so you can utilize the torque the bottle will build.

One piece of advice as already hinted, you really get what you pay for when it comes to converters. a stock s10 converter is just that. Even an aftermarket unit around the same stall would be more ideal, but if you're paying for something like that, do it right. IMO as dwayne mentioned, I'd go no less than 2800-3200. Heck I'd even go with a 3400 stall. But that's just me.

I have a 3400 and it dries great BUT the torque of nitrous will push the stall up which is why I am suggesting the lower stalls I am.
The S10 converter would likely work well for awhile but then after some time you will notice the stall getting higher and tranny running hotter as the fins lay over and efficiency plummets.
At one point those were very popular with the b-body crowd, as it got easier to make real power with the LT1 guys began to have issues. You might think of spending some time on the b-body boards as well seeing as our weight is closer to that of your truck and we share a 8.5" rear you might find some useful info.
This site can be good for general LT1 tech, but the Impala forums have guys dealing with more similar vehicle. Not that a b-body is a truck but like I said the weight is similar and the rearend is the same series.
I know one guy over there who has a 1/2 ton pickup he tows his Impala with the pickup has a handmedown 2800 Vig and a I believe 150 shot.
