Default headers...

i have been tryin build my lt1 on a budget and i am tryin to get headers that are cost effective. the problem is that i have a 1997 ta with dual cats and it seems to be harder to get headers for it. at least on ebay its harder...lol. anyone have any suggestions on where to go to get coated headers at a cheap price? thanks.

You will probably be better off with some shorties or mid-length headers if you're going to keep your cats. Random tech makes a y-pipe with two cats. You can get it from Thunder Racing.

I would get pacesetter LTs and off road y-pipe. If you need cats, you can weld up two in the y-pipe. Thats what I did. I've got pictures if you want.

Not all cars are the same. He's a M6, so the driver might need some work (no offense man). Take it from me.. 13.7 with CAI

Pacesetters with the y-pipe that goes along with them is a good choice. Cheap and good quality. I didnt have any problems getting them installed and like someone said earlier you can have some cats welded in.

And you can also keep your emissions equipped with the Pacesetters. I never bothered with cats so that's why I didn't know you could use them with LT's.

i think that is a good time considering all he has performance wise is LTs ORY and CAI. the rest is just free stuff to free up weight/space/hp or 2.

one thing to keep in mind about headers, if you have emissions testing of ANY kind where you live, long tubes under NO conditions will be street legal. not even with a catted y-pipe. if you just have a visual inspection they might pass but not if the tester knows what hes looking for. i myself am going with pacesetter long tubes without air fittings or anything because i think its stupid to have emissions hook ups with no cats.

Correct, it is illegal to move the cats from the stock location. However, unless your getting your inspection by a ***** with no life, someone will pass you for atleast putting on cats. That is if you pass the sniffer first.

Well it depends on where you live. I live in south tx and just about every car on the street doesnt have cats. Most camaros and t/as are loud, no one complains. Other places like cali however are strict about emissions. Which sucks.

DONT get shorties...

Mac Mids/Pacesetter Coated Mids with a Highflow cat and exhaust will work good though.
If you plan on doing internal mods, get LT's.

I agree, its too expensive just to get something now and then later when you want to go faster go back and get some LTs. You save money by planning ahead, plus you will make more power anyways.

Trust me, I wish I had put the LTs on as my first mod
