Default Why wont my LT1 shift out of 3rd at 135mph?

Well at WOT my car would just bounce off the rev limiter at the top of 3rd. I found this out when i was racing one of my buddies. Im hoping i dont have to get a tuner to set it up. I know my LS1 shifted into OD but my LT1 wont???

Ya man under normal driving its fine. Its just that when i raced my buddy from the 20 kick we ran all the way up to that speed but thats when i noticed it was just staying in 3rd.

That is weird. When I bought my car I could tell that my OD was slipping as the rpm's were a lot higher while cruising down the highway than they should have been for a 3.23 rearend. I noticed that mine would bounce off the rev limiter when going from 2nd to 3rd under WOT. I never ran it fast enough to try the same into OD, but I'm guessing it would have done the same. Then one day after I had romped it up through the gears I lost 3-4 completely. I had lost the clutch pack.

I didn't think the a 4L60e would allow WOT 3-4 shift without a shift kit.

You might get more info in the auto tranny section.

the 4l60e does allow WOT shifts from 3-4. It sounds like the 3-4 clutch packs are shot.

Ya but it shifts fine under normal conditions. Pulls Very hard in 3rd so i think its something to do with the computer or governor like said. Has no one else had this problem??

have you had the car over 135 mph before? because my last 94 6speed had a governor on it and at exactly 135 it would cut the fuel out and it wouldn't go any further. it could be that the transmission is capable of shifting but the computer wont let it because it is supposed to shift right there where the governor is. jmo.

The stock speed limiter is 155-160, back when I was an auto I had the speedo pegged with the stock tune, and it shifted into 4th fine.

Many 700R4s won't go into OD at WOT. There is a piston you can buy to fix it. I know B&M used to offer it, probably every other tranny builder does also.
Forgot the name of that thing, but it is a small piston, looks like 1 piece of aluminium. Your car may have had another tranny put in it. I believe the Z28s would go into 4th WOT from the factory, many lower perf cars won't.

Good luck, Ed

WOT 3-4 shifts are one of the worst thing you can do to your trans, so maybe your lucky it wont make the shift.
