Lifter cleaning after spun main?
I spun 3 main bearings in my old block. I have a new 383 shortblock on the way and want to reuse my lifters, which only have about 2k miles on them. The engine had fine metal flakes (looked like glimmer) up in the heads.
My question is about the design of the lifters, how can I pump all of the particles out of them, and clean them? Or should I just trash them and get a new set. IF any doubt, I don't want to harm my new shortblock.

My old Engine did the same thing.. the parts of the Bearing that spun went into the Oil Pump, and shot all through the Engine. I shut it down as soon as it happened, so there wasn't much trash throughout it. I took the Lifters out, soaked then in Oil, and then blew them out with Air. Haven't had a problem..

Sorry my last post was side tracked you were asking about the lifters. Merv is right. Just flush them with oil and shake them in oil in a container until there is no sign of shavings. Also the lifters can be broken down to be cleaned.
